With thousands turning up for GTT’s inaugural `Pinktober’ 5k/10k run/walk held on Saturday at least $1.5m has been raised for the Guyana Cancer Foundation (GCF).

GTT in a release on Saturday said that close to 5,000 people turned up at Parade Ground for the event and over 3,000 purchased a `Pinktober Special Package’ which will see $500 from each going to the GCF.

“The fantastic thing about the walk is the fact that every one of the over 3,000 persons who purchased a “Pinktober  Special Package”, contributed $500 of that purchase to the work of the Guyana  Cancer Foundation to aid in the Organisation’s work to save lives.

“So great was the belief and support for the cause that it touched the spirit of over 150 persons from across workplaces and professions who volunteered their services to ensure the smooth execution of this massive inaugural event”, GTT exulted.

It said that medals were presented to the first 2,000 persons who crossed the finish line and trophies were also presented to several categories of participants. Another highlight was the release of 2,000 helium balloons in recognition of all those who have fought cancer. A human cancer ribbon was also formed on Parade Ground and participants were treated to free massages, free makeovers, food, drinks and cultural items.

GTT’s Pinktober Special allowed GTT customers to participate in the 5k/10k Walk/Run and from their $2,000 registration fee, $500 was donated to the Guyana Cancer Foundation. Participants also received a free Pinktober 5k/10k Walk/Run T-shirt, access to a three-day mobile data plan compliments of GTT as well as a free ticket to one of three major Gospel, Dancehall or Reggae concerts which will soon be hosted here.

Among a number of events, on October 17, a Benefit Dinner was held at the Kokomo Room, Palm Court. The event saw attendance from corporate and other guests including breast cancer survivors who shared their stories. All proceeds from ticket sales went to the Guyana Cancer Foundation.
