Three arrested after Essequibo Coast raids uncover forged local, US currency

Three men have been arrested after police searches of several houses on the Essequibo Coast uncovered a quantity of forged currency notes on Friday.

Stabroek News understands that a party of policemen, acting on information received, raided the houses belonging to Maugnauth Boodlall, a businessman of Lot Supenaam, Essequibo Coast; Roopnarine Bisnauth, 60, a businessman of Lot Spring Garden Essequibo Coast; Anellie Bailey, 23, a supervisor of Lot Riverstown, Essequibo Coast; Safraz Nazeer, 26, a businessman of Lot Supenaam, Essequibo Coast and Foroze Persaud, 42, a labourer of Aurora Essequibo Coast.

The search was carried out between 2.30 pm and 9 pm and saw $10,000 in forged local currency notes recovered at Boodlall’s residence. An additional $50,000 in forged US currency notes was also lodged.

Investigations are ongoing.
