Food for the Poor, UGSS donate farm equipment to UG

Food for the Poor Guyana, in collaboration with the University of Guyana Students’ Society (UGSS) on Monday donated farming equipment to the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, at the University of Guyana (UG), at the Turkeyen Campus.

According to a press release from the Department of Public Information (DPI), among the implements donated, as part of Agriculture Month activities, were forks, shovels and cultivator tillers.

“We started a journey, the ‘UGSS and You’ some weeks ago, and as part of the process we spoke about commitment to student welfare, our commitment to good governance, our commitment to resource mobilization and our commitment to using social capita, ‘’UGSS President, Norwell Hinds was quoted in the release as saying, at the presentation ceremony, the first major contribution to students from UGSS. Hinds commended Food for the Poor Guyana for its contribution to the faculty, while noting that the student society was determined to have the donation made during Agriculture Month.

Dr. Owen Bovell, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, according to the DPI release, said that while the department had received several gifts over the years from various stakeholders, they had never been of this magnitude and he guaranteed the charity organisation that the staff and students would take good care of, and make maximize use of the equipment.

Food for the Poor’s Public Relations Manager Wayne Hamilton in his remarks, said that it was gratifying for their organization to make such a robust donation to the faculty, according to the DPI release. The donated implements are intended to be utilised by students of the Agriculture Departments on the Turkeyen and Tain campuses.
