Pakuri couple survive accident on Linden/Soesdyke Highway

A couple from Pakuri Village are thankful for life after being involved in a motor vehicle accident on Sunday evening along the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway.

Stabroek News understands that Deon Daniels and his wife were returning home to Pakuri late on Sunday evening, after spending the weekend at their daughter who lives on the East Coast of Demerara, when they were involved in the accident.

Speaking from his hospital bed at the Georgetown Public Hospital, Daniels, who sustained a broken right arm, said, “We were going home and a container truck that was coming down from Linden ended up in my lane. I tried to go over into the other lane but he put on his bright lights and I tried to maintain my control but we ended up hitting the back of the truck,” before noting that he has no recollection of what happened after that moment.

“I don’t even know how I moved from there, I really can’t remember,” he added.

Meanwhile, the man’s daughter told Stabroek News that she had received a telephone call after 10 pm on Sunday informing her that her parents had been involved in an accident.

She further explained that when her father arrived at the hospital he was in a critical condition while her mother had only suffered minor injuries.

Fortunately, Daniel’s condition has improved significantly and he is currently awaiting a more comprehensive examination from the doctors at the hospital in the days to come, to determine the full extent of his injuries.
