Mahdia man charged with fraud

A Mahdia man was yesterday granted his release on $100,000 bail after being charged with the fraudulent conversion of almost three quarters of a million dollars.

It is alleged that Kishon Shiw, 29, received $740,000 from Elon Hamilton and converted it to his own use and benefit on August 25.

Shiw pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.

The prosecutor did not object to Shiw being released on bail but asked that if he were granted his release that he be ordered to report to the Mahdia Police Station every Friday at 9 am. As a result, bail was set at $100,000. The case will be called for trial at the Mahdia Magistrates’ Court on January 16, 2018.
