Tucville man shot in row over motorbike

A Tucville, South Georgetown resident was shot on Thursday after a row over a motorcycle escalated.

As a result, Colin Rodney, 25 of Big Yard, Tucville, South Georgetown, is currently hospitalised with gunshot wounds at Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

According to a police statement, the shooting occurred around 9.30 on Thursday morning at ‘E’ Field, Sophia, where Rodney and his assailant were arguing over a motorcycle. Police added that Rodney’s assailant discharged several rounds at him.

A resident of the area, who did not want to be named, told Stabroek News he was in his house when he heard a commotion. He said he peeked out and saw two men running on the road. “I looked out and I see a man running and another man running behind he and the next thing I hear, ‘Pow! Pow!’” the man recalled.

He explained that Rodney was shot at least two times; to his hand and to one of his feet.

“After the gunshots, he ran across the dam and dropped down on the road in ‘D’ Field,” the man said, before adding that public-spirited persons rushed the wounded man to the hospital.

Acting Commander of ‘C’ Division Stephen Mansell yesterday afternoon told Stabroek News no arrest had been made but investigators were working to apprehend the suspect, who has been identified.
