Taxi driver with trafficking over 17 lbs ganja

A taxi driver was remanded to prison yesterday after he was charged in a city court with being in possession of a little over 17 pounds of cannabis.

Andres Benjamin was read the charge that on November 7, at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, he had 8.05 kilogrammes (equivalent to 17.7 pounds) of cannabis for trafficking.

Benjamin denied the allegation.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan subsequently remanded Benjamin and adjourned the matter until December 11.
