Youths to sound off on constitutional reform at RISE debate competition

Constitutional reform lobby group RISE Guyana Inc will be hosting a debate competition, which will see young people from across Guyana make their case for and against constitutional reform.

RISE Guyana Inc., in a press release issued yesterday, said the competition will feature 19 teams from communities and schools from Berbice, Essequibo, Georgetown and Linden.

“The initiative, which is led by RISE Guyana’s Youth Coordinator, Mr. Elson Low, gives young people a platform to make their voices heard, on a subject that stands to affect them most, but one on which they are, perhaps, the group we listen to the least,” it added.

The competition will see the winning team earn $150,000; the second place team earning $100,000; and the third place team earning $60,000.

The first round of the competition is set for 2pm at the Guyana Red Cross Building, at Barrack Street, Kingston. Admission is free.

The dates and venues for the remaining rounds are: Round 2: Sunday, November 19 – Guyana Red Cross Building, Barrack Street, Kingston; Round 3: Saturday, November 25 – Egbert Benjamin, Conference Centre, Linden; Round 4: Sunday, November 26 – Berbice Chamber of Commerce Building, Rose Hall, Corentyne; Semi-finals: Saturday, December 2 – NCN Studios, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown; and Finals: Saturday, December 9 – NCN Studios, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown.
