Mabaruma farmer charged with growing ganja

A Mabaruma farmer was yesterday accused of cultivating cannabis.
The court of Georgetown magistrate Fabayo Azore heard that 64-year-old Lawrence Joseph confessed his ownership of the plants to the police, although he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The police prosecutor objected to bail being granted based on the purported statement Joseph gave officers that arrested him, in which he is claimed to have said that the plants were his and that he also had a similar charge in Mabaruma.

Nonetheless, Magistrate Azore then told the prosecutor that it was a bailable offence and granted Joseph his release on $75,000 bail. The matter was then adjourned until today.
