GPF, Camptown to meet in grand finale

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) will battle Camptown in the final of the inaugural Turbo Energy Drink Knockout Football Championship following semi-final wins on Friday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Speedy forward Quincy Holder handed the officers the lead, as he found the back of the net in the 38th minute.

Holder made it 2-0 in the 45th+4 minute, stabbing his effort into center of the net, following a goal mouth scramble, after Grove Hi-Tech failed to clear the danger from a cross into the box. Mervin Squires pulled one back for the East Bank Demerara unit, directing his flicked on header into the left corner, after latching on a left side corner-kick.

However any attempts of a Grove Hi-Tech comeback was thwarted, with Rawle Haynes firing the fatal shot in the 78th minute, lobbing a right foot effort over the head of the goalkeeper down the center of the net. Meanwhile, Campbellville outfit Camptown edged West Demerara giant Pouderoyen 1-0 via a Richie Richards penalty conversion in the 44th minute.

The grand finale will be staged on December 3rd at the same venue. The third place playoff will be contested prior to the championship match. Winner of the event will receive $500,000 and the championship trophy while the runners-up will pocket $250,000 and the corresponding accolade. On the other hand, the third and fourth place finishers will walk away with $125,000 and $75,000 apiece and the respective trophy. The event is coordinated by the Petra Organization.
