Three held for robbing pastor after ramming car

Police have arrested three suspects in the robbery of a Haslington, East Coast Demerara pastor, who was attacked shortly after he exited a city bank on Wednesday.

According to a Guyana Police Force statement, it was the admission by one of the men of his involvement in the crime that led to the arrest of the others. However, the police are still searching for another suspect.

A police source told Stabroek News that the pastor, 66-year-old Eldon Anderson, had left his home around 8.45 am on Wednesday with a large quantity of cash in his possession. 

He then proceed to the city bank to make a withdrawal. After completing the transaction, Anderson was proceeding along Church Street, George-town, where his vehicle was struck by a silver Spacio. As a result, he stepped out of the vehicle to inspect the damage and he was pounced upon by two armed occupants of the other car. The men relieved him of the parcel containing the money that was in his car and made good their escape.

The police said the vehicle that was used in the commission of the crime along with a pair of false number plates and a quantity of the cash were recovered.

Meanwhile, the statement also that said six persons, including three women, were taken into custody after a search conducted on a suspect’s West Bank Demerara house unearthed 299 grams of cannabis.
