No. 72 child, grandma wounded by pellets in home invasion

A five-year-old and her fifty-two-year-old grandmother early this morning had to seek medical attention at the Skeldon  Hospital where they were treated and sent away for gunshot injuries.

Thirteen pellets were removed from the child’s left leg; the grandmother sustained injuries to her lower abdomen. The incident occurred at Section B, Number 72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice about 3.30 am, police say. Investigations revealed that Savitri Hassan, her husband and their granddaughter were asleep on a mattress on the floor when they were aroused by a loud explosion and the screaming of the child. On investigating they saw a male who is known, fleeing the house and it was then the victim realized that she and the child were bleeding. The suspect is being sought.
