Lorry driver fined for not yielding to presidential convoy

The driver of motor lorry GRR 8873, who on September 30 last on the Coverden Public Road, ECD, failed to give the right of way to a presidential convoy which was returning to Georgetown, was fined and bonded on Monday.

According to the police, Durbaj Uraj of 577 Foulis Housing Scheme, ECD, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs at the Providence Magistrate’s on Monday and pleaded guilty to the charges of  dangerous driving and failing to give the right of way. He was fined $40,000 on the first charge and bonded for one year on the other. Should he commit any traffic violation during that period, he would be sentenced to six weeks imprisonment, the police said.
