Tuschen man dies after struck by car

A Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo resident died after a drunk driver struck him down last evening as he was attempting to cross the road.

According to the police, around 6:30pm, 25-year-old Kevin Harris, was attempting to cross the Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, Public Road when a car, PSS 2168, hit him head-on, pitching him several feet across the road.

Harris was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital in an unconscious state where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the car, which was driven by a 35-year-old resident of Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, was going east along the northern section of the road at a fast rate when it collided with Harris. A breathalyzer test was administered to the driver which indicated that he was above the legal alcohol limit.

The driver is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation while Harris’ body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
