America Street moneychanger robbed at gunpoint

Two masked men on a motorcycle yesterday morning robbed a South Ruimveldt moneychanger of close to half a million dollars.

Information reaching Stabroek News revealed that the moneychanger, Shem Nurse, 48, of South Ruimveldt, was on America Street between Avenue of the Republic and Longden Street when he was robbed of $450,000 in local and foreign currency. A police source said the robbery occurred at 9.15 am yesterday.

The bandits who were on a red CG motorcycle rode up to Nurse from the eastern end of America Street and ordered him to hand over the cash. The pillion rider who was armed with the gun, police said pointed it to Nurse, and demanded he hand over the cash. After grabbing the cash the men rode off.

The matter was reported to the Brickdam police station and an investigation was launched. Police stated that no one was injured during the robbery.
