Tuschen labourer dies in accident

A Tuschen labourer died early yesterday morning after he allegedly ran into the path of a motorcar along the Orangestein Public Road, East Bank Essequibo.

Dead is Courtney Ashby, 40, of Lot 2133 ‘Z’, Tuschen New Scheme, EBE.

The accident occurred around 5.30am. According to a police press release, investigations revealed that motor car, PRR 5883 was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the Orangestein Public Road when Ashby, who was said to be standing on the said road, allegedly ran into its path.

He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police said that the driver, a 24-year-old resident of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, was arrested and is assisiting the police with investigations.

He was subjected to a breathalyzer test which revealed that he was below the legal limit of alcohol consumption.

Ashby’s remains are currently at the Ezekiel Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
