Pedestrian dies in Wallers Delight accident

A pedestrian was on Tuesday night killed and his daughter-in-law  injured after they were  struck down by a speeding jeep along the Wallers Delight Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

Dead is Mohamed Nazim, 44, of Wallers Delight Reserve, WCD.

Both Nazim and his daughter-in-law Felicia Persaud, 30, of 1117 Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in an unconscious state where Nazim succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

Persaud has since regained consciousness and remains hospitalised in a stable condition.

Stabroek News understands that the accident occurred around 9pm  while Nazim, Persaud and other family members were crossing the road.

Reports revealed that motor jeep, PTT 779, was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the public road, allegedly at a fast rate when it struck down Nazim and Persaud who was crossing the road.

No other family member was injured.

The driver, a 43-year-old resident of Meten-Meer-Zorg was arrested and is currently assisting with investigations.

A breathalyzer test revealed no trace of alcohol.
