Fined $100,000 for Charlestown assault

A man was on Monday fined $100,000 after pleading guilty to an assault charge.

The charge stated that Morris Canterbury on December 13th at Charlestown unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Felicia Phillips.

Canterbury pleaded guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor’s facts stated that the complainant was at home when she was confronted by Canterbury, he became annoyed and punched her to her face.

In a statement to the court Canterbury stated that it was self-defence because Phillips confronted him with a cutlass.

Magistrate Leron Daly imposed a fine of $100,000. If Canterbury is unable to pay the fine, he is to serve six months in prison.
