Soldier on motorbike dies in accident at Houston

A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) soldier died yesterday after he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a car on the opposite side of the Houston Public Road.

According to information reaching Stabroek News, 24-year-old Owen Carrington, from Isaacs Street, Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, was speeding north along the Houston Public Road on his motorcycle, CJ 3815.

He was reportedly riding in a reckless manner and was swerving from one lane to the next. While trying to navigate Rahaman’s Turn at a fast rate and overtaking a vehicle at the same time, the handle of Carrington’s motorcycle clipped a vehicle and he lost control.

As a result, Carrington fell with his motorcycle and it continued to skate along the road and eventually ended up on the other side of the highway where he collided with the right side of a car, PPP 5567. Carrington suffered multiple injuries to his head and feet.

An ambulance from the Georgetown Public Hospital rushed to the scene and he was pronounced dead. A GDF ambulance also arrived on the scene with Lance Corporal Dwayne Easton and a nurse and they took the man’s body to the hospital.

The driver of the car that Carrington collided with was identified as 27-year-old Marrissa Sawh from Tucville and she is currently assisting with the investigations.

At the time of the accident Carrington was not wearing a helmet.
