Accused in T&T girl’s abduction shot dead

(Trinidad Guardian) A man accused of kidnapping a three-year-old girl 12 years ago is one of two men shot dead in separate killings in San Fernando and Moruga on Saturday.

Jonathan Moonsammy, 32, originally from Vistabella and  Devon Blackman, aka Collis, 32, of Moruga, died hours apart after their killers walked up to them and shot them. Police are yet to determine a motive for the killings.

Moonsammy was out on bail awaiting trial, along with his three co-accused, for the 2004 kidnapping of Saada Singh from a daycare in Vistabella.

Police reports stated that around 6.30 pm he was gambling with other people at Solomon Street Extension when two men with guns approached and began firing at him.

Moonsammy ran in a bid to escape, but collapsed a short distance away in front of a church where he died. Police removed more than 12 spent shells from the scene.

Moonsammy originally lived at Crawford Street, Vistabella, but moved some time ago and was living in Central, the T&T Guardian was told.

A team of officers from San Fernando CID and Homicide Bureau of Investigations, including ASP Ali Mohammed and Insp Voster Yearwood visited the scene.

The other murder took place around  10 pm. According to a police report, Blackman was sitting on a chair outside his home when a man approached and asked him to change a hundred dollar bill. While Blackman was in the process of doing that, the man whipped out a gun and fired two shots, hitting Blackman in the head. The killer then ran off. Police said Blackman was a known firearm and drug offender. Visiting the scene were Snr Supt Mohammed, Sgt Ramlogan, Sgt Seepersad and other officers.

Autopsies are expected to be done on the bodies today at the Forensic Science Centre, Port-of-Spain.
