Massy worker dies after gas cylinder ruptures

(Trinidad Express) The Massy Group yesterday disclosed details surrounding the death of a worker who was injured when a cylinder containing ammonia ruptured at Massy Gas Products (Trinidad)  Point  Lisas Industrial Estate, Couva facility on May 31.

Gary Mohammed and another worker were hurt in the incident. Mohammed died at around 11a.m. yesterday.

According to the company, the ruptured cylinder was previously filled and was being held in storage for sale.

“Two employees sustained injuries and were immediately attended to at the appropriate health facility where they were treated by a specialist team of doctors. Over the past week, Gary Mohammed, a member of the maintenance department, developed further complications and unfortunately succumbed to his condition” the company stated.

Mohammed passed away at approximately 11 a.m.

The Massy Group said it was deeply saddened and extended condolences to the family of Gary Mohammed.

“The company continues to lend support to the families and to the other affected employee”.

According to its company profile, Massy Gas Products (Trinidad) Ltd. supplies gas products in either liquid or gaseous form, supplied in cylinders or via bulk storage containers. The products include oxygen, nitrogen, acetylene, carbon dioxide, dry ice, compressed air, and ammonia.The products are also exported in cylinders and in bulk.
