(Trinidad Express) The grandson of the elderly man found dead in a barrel at his home in Freeport on October 6, has been arrested and charged with the murder. Michael Mings, 26, appeared in the Couva Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with the murder of his grandfather, Irving Mings.
The accused, a musician of Calcutta Road, No.2 Freeport, appeared before Senior Magistrate Siumongal Ramsaran.
He was remanded in prison custody and the case adjourned to November 13.
Mings, 87, was found dead inside a barrel outside his home. He had been reported kidnapped and a $100,000, ransom demand made for his safe return.
Homicide detectives believe the victim may have been killed sometime between October 4 and October 6. An autopsy found death was due to asphyxiation.
