T&T pharmacist granted bail on rape charges

Charged: Ramnath Ramdhan and Akeem Worrell

(Trinidad Express) The owner of a Port of Spain pharmacy appeared in court on Tuesday charged with five offences of grievous sexual assault.

Pharmacist Ramnath Ramdhan, 66, was granted $350,000 bail on the charges.

His co-defendant Akeem Worrell, 27, who was charged with the same offences, was denied bail.

Ramdhan is of Bayshore, Westmoorings and Worrell, 27, lives in Enterprise, Chaguanas.

The arrests of the men were made after the women reported being raped at a pharmacy between 2014 and 2015.

The defendants were not called upon to plea when the cases were called before Port of Spain Magistrate Adia Mohammed.

Worrel’s bail request was refused as he had similar matters pending in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ court.

As part of his bail conditions, Ramdhan was ordered to stay 500 feet away from the alleged victims.

The matters were adjourned to December 5.
