Nishad Amrit Radhay

(Trinidad Express) A doubles vendor was shot dead by thieves in a home invasion in Couva early yesterday.

Nishad Amrit Radhay, 25, of Cameron Street, Balmain, died at the hospital.

Police said at around 2 a.m. Radhay was outside his home preparing doubles for sale when he was confronted by two gun-toting thieves.

Radhay was shot in the head.

His relatives came out of the house to check on him and were accosted by the gunmen.

They were pushed back into the house held under siege as the house was ransacked.

Police said the thieves took a quantity of cash and ran out of the premises.

Radhay was taken to the Couva District Health Facility where he succumbed to his injuries.

In October, Radhay, a road runner, competed in the University of the West Indies Half Marathon.

He wrote on his Facebook page: “UWI half marathon pb (personal best) 1hr 52mins #everstrong. The harder you work and strive for what you want the more people would jealous you. Never in a million years I thought I would see myself actually running in 5k, 10k , 12miles , 13.1miles and 26.2miles. My journey thus far have introduced me to many amazing people with a lot of running stories. This chapter in my life is just the beginning because this is how I want to live my life and honestly my fitness level is off the roof”.

An autopsy is expected to be done at the Forensic Sciences Centre.
