Mother-in-law charged with Pundit’s murder

(Trinidad Express) The 60-year-old mother-in-law of the pundit murdered during a reported robbery at his Arouca home on November 25 will appear before an Arima Magistrate today, along with a 22 year old handyman charged with his killing.

According to the police, Kumarie Maraj, of Corner 1st Street and Sampath Street, Five Rivers, Arouca and Salim Goberdhan, of Eastern Main Road, Five Rivers, Arouca, were charged with murder on Wednesday.

Pundit Sunil Ragbirsingh, 45, of Corner 1st Street and Sampath Street, Five Rivers, Arouca, was at home with his family, including his mother-in-law, when four men entered, one armed with a gun. They announced a robbery.

During the attack, Ragbirsingh was shot and died on the scene.

Some TT$20,000 and US$5,000 cash and a quantity of jewelry was taken.

Goberndhan was an employee of the pundit.

The two were charged by PC Ricardo Ramdial, of Homicide Bureau of Investi-gations, Region 2.
