Wife caught trying to smuggle ganja to convict – court hears

A housewife was remanded to prison yesterday by a city magistrate after being charged with trying to smuggle cannabis into the Camp Street prison for her common-law husband.

Parviena Kissoon, a mother of two, denied the charge that on April 19, at Camp Street, she had 278 grammes of cannabis in her possession for trafficking.

The police’s case is Kissoon, 25, went to visit her husband, Kevin King, who is presently on remand at the prison. She was later allegedly observed removing a parcel from under her skirt and throwing it into a corner of the room.

An officer later confronted her and retrieved the parcel, which contained a quantity of cannabis leaves, seeds and stems, police said.

Kissoon was remanded to prison by the magistrate until May 12, when her next hearing is scheduled.
