Columbia biker killed after crashing into plough on Essequibo road

The police on the Esse-quibo Coast are conducting investigations into a fatal accident that occurred on the Columbia Public Road yesterday afternoon.

Dead is 21-year-old Hazrul Bacchus, also known as ‘Ling,’ of Lot 25 Three Friends, Essequibo Coast.

Sister of the dead man Faeeda Bacchus told Stabroek News that her brother was heading to work at the family’s restaurant in Affiance when the accident occurred around 2 pm. “Hazrul worked in the family business with my parents and he had just left home to go to work,” she said. “I was told that he was overtaking two cars and there was a plough on the right hand side of the road and he lost control of the bike and ran into the plough. The bike ended up in the trench and his left foot got severed.”

Bacchus said her family was still trying to come to grips with the loss of her youngest sibling.

“As soon as I heard about the accident, I went to the scene but Hazrul was already taken to the hospital and when I got there, I was told that he was already dead,” she added. “My family is still in shock about what occurred and my mother is inconsolable. My brother lived with my mom and dad and only got married on August 14th last year. It’s not even a year since he has gotten married. My family is now trying to cope with this loss.”

Bacchus added that Hazrul was the owner of the CBR motorcycle for the past three years.

Only last week, 21-year-old Ackeem James of Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast, a friend and former school classmate of Bacchus lost his life in a similar manner. James died early Thursday morning after he collided with the front fender of a parked motor lorry along the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
