Eighteen-year-old remanded over break and enter

Charged with robbing a business of over $200,000 in items, a miner was yesterday remanded to prison but granted bail on an assault charge.

Eighteen-year-old Shawn Anthony Cornelius, aka ‘Max’, was read a charge that he, between June 4 and June 5, at Water Front, Port Kaituma, North West District, broke and entered the business premises of Vanetta Rodrigues and stole a quantity of items, having a total value of $251,000.

Cornelius pleaded not guilty to the charge read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

A second charge was then read to the defendant, which stated that he, on March 24 at Log Pond, Port Kaituma, assaulted Evadney Baptiste.

The accused also denied this charge.

Subsequently, Magistrate Latchman remanded the accused on the first charge, but granted him $10,000 bail on the second charge.

Cornelius will make his next court appearance before the Chief Magistrate on June 27, when the matter is expected to be transferred.
