Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System suffers shutdown

At approximately 1.34 pm today, the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS)  experienced a total shutdown following a trip of the breaker for the transmission line linking the Kingston and Vreed-en-Hoop Substations, a release from the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) said.

Following the shutdown, GPL said that restoration efforts commenced immediately and all areas were repowered at approximately 14.45pm.

GPL has been plagued for months by the shutdown of the DBIS.
