Stabbed reputed wife refuses to testify against spouse

Charged three weeks ago with stabbing his wife and attempting to cut her neck, Jairam Alexander was brought before a City Magistrate once more, as his reputed wife stated that she didn’t want to proceed with the matter.

The charge against Alexander stated that on May 20th, at Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded his common-law wife.

When the matter was called before Magistrate Sunil Scarce, the defendant’s reputed wife, who was now able to stand without the aid of someone, told the court that she no longer wished to offer evidence against the accused because she believes that he can change.

She further stated that she believes that he has learnt his lesson.

The Magistrate then asked the woman if this was the first time Alexander had hit her, to which she responded no. She was then further questioned as to why she wished not to proceed with the matter and if she was not afraid that he would harm her. She then stated that she was not afraid that he would harm her again.

After some time, the woman was advised by the court to file a protection order against the defendant which she did.

Sometime later the order was sent before the Magistrate and a private hearing began.

The outcome of that hearing is presently unknown.

On June 2, the court heard that Alexander who frequently abuses his wife, asked her for money but when she refused to give him and he armed himself with a knife and stabbed her in the region of her abdomen. He then attempted to cut the woman’s neck.
