Accused in child molestation case charged with escaping from custody

Cleveland King

Cleveland King, who was held in connection with a sexual offence on a child, was remanded to prison yesterday after he was read a charge of escaping lawful custody.

King, 24, stood before city magistrate Judy Latchman, who read a charge which alleged that on August 17, at Kuru Kuru Police Outpost, being a prisoner in lawful custody for the offence of engaging, or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, he escaped from lawful custody.

King, of Kuru Kuru Highway, denied the charge.

Bail was objected to by police prosecutor Adduni Inniss, who noted that the accused walked out of the police outpost. King was subsequently remanded to prison and the matter adjourned until August 28.
