Linden poultry farmer shot man during robbery

- court hears

A Linden poultry farmer was yesterday charged with an armed robbery, in which he allegedly shot the victim, who was then relieved of cash and his phones.

Magistrate Judy Latchman read the charge to Kerwin Estwick, 22, alleging that he, in company of others and armed with a gun, on August 21, at Irving Street, Georgetown, robbed Roshan Rampersaud of a $125,000 Samsung Note 5, a $100,000 iPhone, $129,000 in cash, and a wallet, valued at $12,000.

Estwick, of 229 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves, the defendant, who was armed with a gun, contacted the complainant, shot him and relieved him of the articles mentioned in the charge.

The prosecutor further noted that Estwick admitted in an oral statement to the commission of the crime. As a result, he objected to bail being granted.

Estwick was subsequently remanded to prison until October 2.
