A twenty-seven-year-old Mocha resident has been charged with six counts of armed robbery after he was yesterday identified as the man who robbed a group of persons early Tuesday morning at Second Bridge, Mocha, East Bank Demerara.
Spokesman of the Guyana Police Force, Jairam Ramlakhan in a press release said that the suspect, Dillion Joel Dublin of Lot 96 Nelson Street, Mocha, was arrested around 11am on Tuesday.
Ramlakhan said that an identification parade was held yesterday during which Dublin was positively identified by the victims. He has been charged with robbing six persons including three females and is expected to appear in court tomorrow.
Dublin is also being questioned in relation to the attempted robbery and shooting of Kathy Vyphuis, a cashier and her supervisor, Tommylee Stephenson, the release said.
This incident had occurred around 2 am on Tuesday as Vyphuis, the cashier at Cheers Bar arrived home in Plantation Providence.
Stabroek News had previously reported that Vyphuis was exiting the car, driven by Stephenson, 52, of Eccles, East Bank Demerara when a man wearing a mask rode up to the car on a bicycle and held them at gunpoint.
The police in a press release had said that Stephenson was shot while he was still seated in his car. The bullet had passed through his hands and entered his foot.
The statement explained that Vyphuis was then followed and relieved of a bag containing valuables by the said bandit, who also discharged a round which struck her on the left hand, before making good his escape.
Vyphuis, who is the daughter of retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, George Vyphuis was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where she was treated and sent away.
Stephenson was taken to the said hospital but he was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
