GRA officer shot, robbed of service weapon

A Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) enforcement officer was shot and robbed of his service revolver early Saturday morning and the police have since arrested two persons for questioning.

Benjamin was attacked around 4.30am as he was about to enter his premises shortly after he arrived home. He was reportedly making his way into his home when he was accosted by a man, who was armed with a handgun and who relieved him of a pouch containing his service revolver and 17 live rounds.

During the encounter, the man discharged a round that struck Benjamin in his abdomen.

Spokesman for the Guyana Police Force Jairam Ramlakhan confirmed the shooting of Benjamin and he said two persons were taken into police custody to aid with the investigation.
