Cop in ‘Sagga’ murder probe still under close arrest

The policeman who allegedly provided the gun which was used in the murder of businessman Godfrey Scipio is still under close arrest as the investigation continues.

A police source confirmed with Stabroek News yesterday that the policeman is still under close arrest and the force is investigating the allegations that have been levelled against him.

The cop is being accused of providing the prime suspect Aubrey Bobb, 26, of 79 William Street, Kitty, with the gun that was used to shoot Scipio on October 12.

Bobb appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on October 17, where he was charged with the murder and was subsequently remanded to prison.

He was also read a second charge for the unlawful possession of 58 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking on October 13, at William Street, Kitty, and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to three years in jail and fined $34,800.

Scipio, called `Sagga,’ of Lot ‘ZZ’ 22 D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, was shot once in his abdomen around 4.20 am on October 12 at Stanley Place, Kitty during a robbery.

Shortly after being rushed to the Woodlands Hospital he succumbed to his injuries.

The police, in a statement had said that initial investigations revealed that Scipio and a female companion had just exited a city hotel and were entering his vehicle when a lone gunman pounced on them, demanding cash and jewellery.

The police said the suspect discharged a round, hitting Scipio in the abdomen, then relieved him of his jewellery and escaped on foot.

Investigators had ruled out robbery as the motive.

Scipio was a well-known businessman in the Stabroek Market area and owned a wholesale and retail business near the Berbice bus park.
