Why did Sittlington accompany SOCU on raids?

Dear Editor,

At the Parliamentary Opposition press conference held on March 29, 2017, Mr Adam Harris, Editor of the Kaieteur News, challenged me on my statement that the British High Commission had denied the presence of any staff of the BHC at the now famous “wine party” at the Oasis Cafe on Wednesday March 7, 2017.

I enclose for Mr Harris’s attention the official statement from the British High Commission of March 10, 2017 in which High Commissioner Greg Quinn stated, “I also understand the former Attorney General Hon Anil Nandlall believes that High Commission staff were at the Oasis Café on Wednesday, however that was not the case”.

With regard to whether Dr Sittlington was involved in operational matters of SOCU which was also denied by the High Commissioner in the same statement, it is time that the government and the High Commissioner explain why this “advisor” accompanied SOCU on raids of local businessman and entered their premises, accompanied the Head of SOCU to Freedom House four days before the former Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Luncheon, was arrested as well as being present in the compound of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition when Leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jagdeo was arrested.

I reiterate my statement at the press conference that the High Commissioner owes an apology for misleading the public, and further, that the government and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office should state whether the “imbedding” of Dr Sittlington into the operations of SOCU was with their knowledge and approval.

Yours faithfully,

Gail Teixeira, M.P.,

Parliamentary Opposition Chief Whip
