Can’t get pension re-calculated

Dear Editor,

My name is Mangree Basdeo and I worked at GuySuCo’s Wales Estate for thirty-seven years. I am currently receiving a pension from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) calculated on 932 contributions that were made to the Scheme through contributions by the employer and myself. I represented to the Scheme, through my union, that all my contributions were not reflected in the NIS records.

Subsequently, I secured a statement issued June 2, 2016, which advised that I have 1,453 contributions. My efforts, so far, to get the Scheme to re-calculate my pension based not on 932 but on 1,453 contributions have been in vain.

I am satisfied that my union ‒ The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU] ‒ has written many letters to the General Manager of the Scheme to have this matter resolved.

Yours faithfully,

Mangree Basdeo
