Nagamootoo has right on his side

Dear Editor,

It is now twenty-two years since I wrote a prescient piece in the Chronicle called ‘Time for Sheriff Nagamootoo to tame the Wild West’ about the anarchy then extant in Guyanese television.

Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. Nagamootoo is now the Super Sheriff and the private TV station owners are still bleating and asking for special treatment away from his law.

I say they will get it when they stop selling loaves made with stolen flour to audiences unknown because they refuse to let anybody count them objectively. A broadcast licence brings civic responsibility with it.

Super Sheriff Nagamootoo has moral right and world good practice on his side on this. The Guytelly moguls should stop whingeing and start being professional.

Yours faithfully,

John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
