Culture and cricket at the London High Commission

Dear Editor,

What a stimulating evening at the London High Commission this week with two of Guyana’s best and brightest professors, Clem Seecharan and David Dabydeen talking India, Indo-Guyanese culture and cricket under the excellent chairmanship of Clive Myrie. The discussion ranged far and wide from the “fascism” of Modi to the role of the pandit in the Berbice sugar villages to the talents of Rohan Kanhai and inevitably to race and politics in Guyana. The forty strong audience was given an intellectual treat and food treats of roti and doubles before and after.

This mini-series, courtesy of High Commissioner Hamley Case is proving very popular.

Next up is Craig Charles on November 26th.

Yours faithfully,

John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
