The Guyana Water Incorporated wishes to thank Mr Thakechand Ramnauth, Chairman of the Community Development Council, Anna Regina for his letter published in the Kaieteur News on October 6, 2017, captioned ‘Citizens of Anna Regina make desperate plea to GWI’.
Firstly, GWI apologises to the residents of Essequibo for the low level of service they have been receiving. Nevertheless, the company wishes to assure residents that its Regional Office has been undertaking remedial works to bring relief.
The Regional Office has completed the interconnection of two mains between Henrietta and Anna Regina, aimed at improving water supply and increasing pressure.
Additionally, the Regional Office recently detected and repaired major leakages and continues to inspect villages for other existing leaks. Residents are also encouraged to report leaks.
In an effort to maintain adequate pressure for all residents across the Essequibo Coast, GWI is urging all customers to desist from pumping water directly from their water service connection to an elevated tank, as this is against best practices allowed by GWI and prevents nearby residents from accessing a sufficient level of service.
Alternatively, customers can store water in a ground level tank via gravity flow. After this is done, only then can customers pump water from their ground-level tank to their elevated tank.
