Encouraging that BHS alumni confronting silence over abuse

Dear Editor,

It is encouraging that a few Bishops’ High School (BHS) alumni have dared to confront the totally abhorrent cultures of wilful blindness and silence, in the face of all sorts of abuses, which pervade life in Guyana today (Stabroek News November 22).

Sadly, the allegation of sexual abuse of students at BHS is just one such case.

Thankfully these children, perhaps bolstered by seeing themselves as part of Guyana’s elite, had the confidence and resources to resist the appalling response of both the BHS and Education Ministry leadership.

Imagine what could happen should this spirit of self-emancipation spread among Guyana’s youth.

Yours faithfully
