What level of nursing earned a 97% pass?

Dear Editor,

There appeared to be several rounds of hearty self-congratulations on the reported achievement of 97% passes at the purported ‘Nurses’ examination(s).

While this event might raise the reasonable expectations of patients, their impatient families must wonder how accurate is the descriptor ‘nurses’. For even the near-sighted would have observed in the last Annual Estimates that there exist the following categories in the nursing hierarchy of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation:

(*Same Grade as a Health Centre Attendant, Receptionist, Telephonist)

Given the phasing out of the Medex training programme, it would not be unreasonable to seek clarification on what level of nursing earned a 97% pass, and how institutionally recognisable is the accreditation.

Yours faithfully,
E B John
