Guyana government should stand up and be counted on the side of the Palestinians

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Peace Council (GPC) joins with the rest of the international community to salute the Palestinian people on the occasion of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People which was observed on November 29.

This is an opportune time for the international community to intensify efforts to bring an end to this decades-old problem of a Palestinian state. The Guyana Peace Council is convinced that unless and until this matter is resolved there can be no lasting peace in the Middle East.

The Guyana Peace Council takes this opportunity to call on the Guyana Government to stand up and be counted on the side of the Palestinian people who for decades have been denied by Israel a place that they could call a home, in full defiance of the United Nations Resolutions which unequivocally called for the establishment of a Palestinian State.

The time is long overdue for the people of Palestine to enjoy a life of freedom and dignity. It is a shame that this issue has been allowed to fester for such a long time. The United States in particular, and the world in general, cannot continue to ignore the cries of the people of Palestine for a homeland.

Yours faithfully,

Clement J Rohee
