Calf in police compound to be sold at auction

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Police Force is responding to a letter in the September 9 edition of the Stabroek News that appeared as well in the other dailies, under the caption ‘Cruel treatment of calf in police compound at No 51’.

Please be advised that a report in respect of the animal which is the subject of a ‘dispute’, was compiled and forwarded to the Police Legal Advisor who advised that the calf be disposed of under Section 61 (1) of the Police Act Chapter 16:01.

Presently the police are engaging the “appropriate authority” so as to have the animal sold by way of auction.

Meanwhile, the ranks at the No 51 Police Station are doing their level best to ensure the proper upkeep of the animal.

Yours faithfully,

Jairam Ramlakhan

Superintendent of Police

Public Relations and Press Officer
