A release from GAWU said its donation arose out of a decision taken at its General Council meeting on September 30, 2017 where members, among other things, reflected on the tragedies wrought by the recent hurricanes in the Caribbean.

The Union’s General Council was especially moved by the substantial destruction to property and infrastructure and more so the loss of lives, and the suffering and deprivation that now confronts thousands in the Caribbean states of Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda, the release said. CDC Director, Colonel (Ret’d) Chabilall Ramsarup who received the Union’s donation expressed his appreciation and pointed out that it would contribute to assist in the CDC’s effort to channel supplies to the two Caribbean states.
