Pouderoyen lose to GFC in friendly encounter

Pouderoyen began their preparation for the second annual Petra Organization/ Limacol football tournament in the worst possible manner, losing to Elite League dropout Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 1-3 in a pre-season encounter Friday.

Played at the GFC ground, Bourda, the home side opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Joel Humphrey, who slotted home after the defender misjudged the ball.

Eight minutes later the score ballooned to 2-0 as Brazilian import Renato unleashed a powerful shot from the right side of the box which flew across the body of custodian Sherwin Bernard and into the left corner of the goal.

Ralph Parris increased the lead in the 35th minute under fortuitous circumstances as his strike took a deflection off a defender, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and settling into the back of the net.

The West Demerara unit eventually scored in the 43rd minute through Esan Nelson, who raced into the box before cutting across the body of the advancing goalkeeper and finishing into the net.
