Sonics edge Pacesetters, Ravens school UG

Pepsi Sonics edged Pacesetters in the Open Division while Ravens dismissed the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans in the U23 section when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) ‘League of Champions’ continued Saturday.

Sonics prevailed over Pacesetters 63-59 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

Trevor Smith registered a double-double of 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals for the victors while Jason Squires also recorded a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Contributing nine points each were Earl O’Neil and Kerwin Jackson.  Nathan Saul with 22 points and nine rebounds was the standout performer for Pacesetters.

He was assisted by an 11-point effort from Floyd Arthur, a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds from Sherlon Legall and a nine-point effort from Jaleel Duke.

Meanwhile, Ravens clawed their way past Trojans 62-51 in the junior division. Murtland Ward bagged a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds in the win while Sebastian Luke recorded 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals and Kelwyn Griffith scored 12 points.

For Trojans, Shaquille Eversley top scored with 12 points while Jonathan Brown chipped in with nine points and 16 rebounds.

There were eight point efforts respectively from Kadeem Peterkin, Alister Lewis and Denzil Logan.
