GCB holds AGM but no elections

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) yesterday held its Annual General Meeting at the at the GCB’s La Bonne Intention Hostel which was then followed by a press conference.

As expected the election of office bearers for the next two years was not held because all three of the county boards that comprise the GCB failed to hold their AGM and election of office bearers as required by the Guyana Cricket Administration Act (GCAA).

Additionally, Secretary of the GCB, Anand Sanasie, said that there were no elections simply because of the existing court orders adding that once the matters are heard then the GCB would proceed with the elections according to the GCAA.

“Basically what has happened, the motion that is required was presented in October on the nominations and it was presented because there’s an existing court order against our entities under the act to hold elections, so we could not have proceeded with that part of it but the nominations were done and presented at the meeting.”

Absent are Virendra Chintamani, Assistant Secretary and Andy Ramnarine Public Relations Officer.

He added:”at whichever time the court matter is heard and determined as per the order, we will then proceed in accordance with the Cricket Administration Act.”

Sanasie said as per the GCB’s constitution, the present executive will continue to run the affairs of the GCB until elections are called.

The same, he said, obtains for the county boards who face a similar situation and are functioning beyond their constitutional term.

The Guyana Cricket Administration Act (GCAA) which was passed in parliament on May 15, 2014, stipulates that the GCB is not only a legal, corporate body, but as the supreme organization for the administration of the sport.

The GCAA further states that the first elections of the GCB, by law, should be called by the Minister of Sport in consultation with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).
