Territorial Development Officer (TDO) of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Colin Stuart says the GCB, Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket programme is set for a February 15th launch at the GCB’s head office.

According to Stuart, a former West Indies fast bowler, the nursery programme is set to include a number of developmental aspects.

‘Cricket is your game, learn it,’ is the title of one of the major features of the programme.

According to Stuart, the multifaceted approach to cricket development will see officials of the game going into different schools to deliver practical lectures with the main objective being to influence youngsters to get involved in the game while at the same time putting them in positions to gather a comprehensive understanding of the sport.

“The focus of the programme will be to engage primary schools youth by having umpires, coaches and past players going into earmarked schools to talk about the game,” said Stuart.

“The umpires for instance will be tasked with simplifying the different modes of dismissals. It’s important for them to have such understanding from a tender age,” he remarked.

The GCB official also said that there will be an international display as part of the Kiddy programme. The display will see a number of youths being given the opportunity to engage each other during the lunch break of Second One Day International (ODI) between West Indies and Pakistan at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

Stuart confirmed the board’s intention to hold four summer camps, two in Demerara, and one each in Essequibo and Berbice. The camps will be aimed at earmarking the nation’s talent with the intention of linking them to different clubs in an effort to fast-track and nurture their development, said Stuart.
