The show continues for Showstoppers

On a night highlighted by wins for titlist Showstoppers, former winners West Side Ballers and Hustlers, ESPN overcame Harmony Ballers 3-2 on penalty kicks when the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara/East Bank Demerara zone continued Friday.

Trailing 0-1 at the Pouderoyen Tarmac to a Nickosie Holder 10th minute effort following a one-on-one situation with the final defender, ESPN levelled proceedings in the 15th minute through Nicquan Nestor.

Receiving a pass from the left from a free-kick, Nestor curled a right foot shot into the lower right corner, silencing the partisan crowd and in the process, sending the game into the penalty shootout.

With the momentum on their side, ESPN converted all three of their spotkicks to seal the come from behind result as Harmony missed once from the distance.

Meanwhile holders Showstoppers blanked Good Intent All-Stars 5-0 with  Dexroy Adams recording a double in the fifth and 12th minute while Kayode King scored twice in the 17th and 22nd minute.

Completing the rout in the 15th minute was Marvin Josiah.

In another fixture, West Side Ballers crushed Brothers United 2-0.

Gideon Payne opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing down the centre of the net following a one-on-one situation with the final defender.

Andre Hector sealed the contest in the 24th minute, slotting home from the left side after collecting a right side pass unchallenged.

Hustlers humbled Golden Warriors and Patentia Street Ballers. In the first fixture, Hustlers prevailed over Golden Warriors 2-0 through goals from Anthony Sancho and Donovan Francis in the fifth and 19th minute respectively.

In their second fixture, Hustlers mauled Patentia Street Ballers 5-0. John Waldron recorded the second hat-trick to date in the third, 16th and 18th minute while Deon Charter bagged a brace in the 7th and 24th.

In other results, Tajoe’s Admiral United crushed De Kinderen 2-0 through of a Lexroy Manfield double in the sixth and 19th minute.

Agricola downed Patentia Street Ballers 2-0 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 1-1. Onacy Bernard gave Patentia the lead in the eighth minute while Sheldon Gorrick equalised in the 16th minute.

Also, Goal Getters edged Young Ballers of Crane 3-2 on sudden death penalty kicks, following a scoreless normal time interval. The Money Team needled Jetty 1-0 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 0-0.

At the end of the group round, the top two finishers from each pool will progress to the quarterfinal section.
